This fall, the GPBAC Youth Council is spearheading a community project to send 200 holiday stockings to locally-based military reserve units who will be stationed overseas during the holiday season. We’ve partnered with the Greater West Palm Beach Women’s Club, who sewed all of our stockings for us on October 6th. Our local Red Cross high school clubs are participating by collecting items to stuff the stockings, such as hand sanitizer, hard candy, PowerBars, Slim Jims, toothbrushes, and blank cards for the soldiers to send back to their families. We’ve also received donations from local businesses to assist with the project: The Palm Beach Princess Cruise Line donated 200 decks of cards and pairs of dice, Canvas Designers donated fabric and cut all of the patterns for our stockings, Clear Channel Communications donated indivudual packets of sunscreen, and CVS donated tubes of chapstick. The project will culminate on Sunday, November 11th (Veteran’s Day) when our Youth Council members along with our Chapter’s young professionals group (Paint the Town Red) will gather to stuff and pack all of the 200 stocking and prepare them to be shipped.
