Who was Navin Narayan?
Navin Narayan was an incredibly dedicated, compassionate and innovative volunteer and leader, a sought-after national and international speaker on human rights, and a tireless advocate for Red Cross causes. Tragically, Navin passed away at the age of 23.
Shortly after his death, the American Red Cross National Youth Council created a scholarship for Red Cross youth continuing to college and a speaker award in his memory.
Navin Narayan College Scholarship
*The only national scholarship for youth within the American Red Cross.
*Since it was established in 2001 two scholarships have been awarded each year.
*The financial award is $1, 250 for each scholarship recipient.
*Four of the past winners have gone on to be members of the National Youth Council.
Navin Narayan Speaker Award
*The title holder becomes a representative of young people across the nation for one year.
*He or she will address the Red Cross family during the National Awards and Recognition Ceremony.
*The award recipient will travel to service areas, meet with chapter executives, coordinators and youth and young adult volunteers.
*This scholarship is the only national scholarship award within the American Red Cross. It showcases and rewards the hard work and excellence of our new generation of Red Cross volunteers. As for the overall impact, it increases individual involvement and more over inspires volunteers around the country.
