Hi everyone! Happy New Year! Best wishes for a fantastic 2009!
With the new year, an important event is approaching-the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama on January 20th! In the days leading up to the inauguration, from Saturday, January 17 through Monday, January 19, Obama has called for citizens to volunteer in their communities through a National Day of Service.
Excitingly, the American Red Cross has been invited to participate by registering volunteer events occurring during those days onto the Presidential Inaugural Committee’s website! The online form is available here. Any and all volunteer service events are welcomed; they do not need to be specific to the Inaugural, and can be longstanding events already planned or be entirely new opportunities for people to volunteer.
I know that with MLK Day on January 19th, many youth programs may already have special volunteer events planned. Register your event, and help the American Red Cross play a major role in this exciting moment in history!
