Stories from Karla Yvie Valcourt and Elizabeth Tarver

“I volunteer with the American Red Cross because I enjoy knowing that what we’ve done as a group made a difference in someones life. Although I’ve been involved just this year, Red Cross has helped me in ways imaginable. The American Red Cross can be full of advantages on college applications, but more a way to make friends, build essential life skills and more!”

-Karla Yvie Valcourt

“I volunteer with the American Red Cross because of the fulfillment it gives me as a young adult and how it empowers me to be a better person for all. ARC has been a major part of my life since I was 12 and has taught me that volunteering isn’t about performing your “civic duty” (or getting service hours for that matter), it’s about getting together with others and making a difference in someone’s life. I love how ARC puts responsibility in the hands of their youth volunteers because they know that we all have the capability to help our community and our world. They know that although we’re young we all have special talents and abilities to help those who need it most. They know that our youth is power. ARC has allowed me to use my youth to make someone smile and to let them know that there is a person out there who cares. Overall, I’m just thankful that “Together we can save a life” includes me too.”
