Chance Sullivan, a fourth-grader from Chandler, Oklahoma, decided to give his birthday money back to the American Red Cross after hearing about the extent of damage that storms in Oklahoma extolled on towns around his own around Memorial Day weekend.
Sullivan was mentally affected by the storms as his family huddled in his home’s cellar to escape being victims themselves. Though their house ended up not being damaged, Sullivan’s personal need to help others led him and his friends to donating $281 to the American Red Cross, gathered during his birthday party. Sullivan’s efforts were lauded by local Red Cross of Central Oklahoma CEO Janienne Bella.
