Red Cross Innovators
A big congratulations to the Red Cross Club at the Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School (CCLCS). The club just won the Destination Imagination Regional and State Competitions and will be competing at the Global Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee this May.
Destination Imagination is an educational program where student teams solve open-ended challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. In working to solve these challenges, teams learn important life skills like time management, collaboration, conflict resolution, and creative and critical thinking.
The challenge the CCLCS Team tackled was to find a community need that hadn’t been met, then to partner with an organization to help find a way to meet that need. The Team partnered with American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts, Youth Programs and created a “kidified” Fire Safety Program. The club used existing Red Cross information about fire safety and created a “Fire Safety Fair” that is informational and interactive, and in particular, was geared towards elementary school children. The final project presented at competitions included a skit presenting information about the project, a video showing each step of the creative process and a Q&A where the team was able to discuss challenges experienced and how they used critical thinking to overcome them.
Great job! We wish the Red Cross Club at the Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School lots of luck at the Global Finals this May! Go Red Cross!
