The Puerto Rico Chapter Prepares Holiday Cards For Our Heroes
San Juan, Puerto Rico – A group of young volunteers of the American Red Cross Puerto Rico Chapter joined together for the traditional Holiday Mail for Heroes event at their local facilities. The teens prepared their own holiday cards to send hope and their support to the soldiers who cannot be in the Island during the holidays because of their duty as military active members.
More than 100 students from different Youth Clubs from schools and universities around the Island participated in the event. The crafted cards will be sent along with other traditional Puerto Rican articles typical of the holiday season such as candies and “parranda” kits. Once the packages are ready, the National Guard will send them to the Puerto Rican soldiers located all around the world. Also, the Chapter will hand these cards to veterans through a series of scheduled visits during the holidays.
The Regional Chapter Executive Officer of the Caribbean Region, Lee Vanessa Feliciano, said “We are honored to serve all the members of the Armed Forces as they do a huge sacrifice for our country every single day. That’s why we call on our youth volunteers every year to spread our Christmas spirit thru these holiday cards with a little bit of our Puerto Rican warmth.”
The Mail for Heroes program is part of the services the American Red Cross provides to the Armed Forces. It is worth pointing out that through this program the Organization have distributed over 6.5 million of cards to members of the US Army since 2006.
