Spotlight on Michigan State University’s Red Cross Club
Michigan State University’s Red Cross Club has been having an amazing year thus far. They currently have 250 active members, and have hosted a variety of events throughout the year. In the fall, MSU won their annual MSU vs. Penn State Blood Challenge, receiving 1363 pints of blood. They also participate regularly in the Scrubby Bear program at elementary schools in their area.
MSU is very involved in Holiday Mail for Heroes. Not only do they host multiple events on their campus throughout the year where students can make or sign cards to the veterans, but they also man booths at their local Hallmark store.
Here, customers can donate holiday cards for veterans as well. They then distribute the cards at the local VA and Homeless Veterans Hospital.
Currently, MSU is participating in a Blood Battle with the University of Michigan. To advertise for this event, they passed out over 200 carnations and 400 flyers as a pre-Valentine’s Day event, using the slogan, “Show someone you care! Give life!”
Future projects for the semester include making Disaster Relief Kits, and going to local nursing homes for both bingo and manicure hour.
Great job, and keep up the phenomenal work you do as Red Crossers!
