Red Cross Throughout History

I have always been a fan of history. After seven years as a passionate Red Crosser, I am still surprised at how often I find the familiar Red Cross sign captured in moments throughout time. To be able to witness and contribute my story as a small part of the unrelenting Red Cross force through history simply humbling. There is something special about feeling connected with others who share this passion eras before mine.

As the November National Youth Involvement Month #NYIM approaches, I urge youth volunteers to take a moment and learn the long ties of Red Cross with history. As the future of the Red Cross, it is important for us to know our past. #TeamRC #RedCross isn’t just a choice; it is a commitment — a commitment to uphold the spirit of Red Cross that lives on.

Since 1881, American Red Cross members and volunteers have been an essential part of our nation’s response to war, natural disaster and other human suffering. We’ve been witnesses to great tragedy, but more importantly we’ve seen the triumph of the human spirit as people work together to help each other rebuild their lives and communities.
