Here’s some background and history on Red Cross Month!
“I request that during that month (March) our people rededicate themselves to the splendid aims and activities of the Red Cross.”–President Franklin D. Roosevelt, first Presidential Proclamation of March as Red Cross Month, 1943
Each year, the president of the United States proclaims that March is “Red Cross Month.” We use this opportunity to thank our supporters, raise awareness about our work, and ask the public to support our lifesaving mission.
During Red Cross Month, we honor the volunteer heroes who fuel our mission every day to provide hope and urgent relief to families in need. We also ask the public to be a hero by volunteering, taking a Red Cross class in lifesaving skills like first aid and CPR, or making a blood or financial donation. The month culminates with a call for financial donations to #help1family on American Red Cross Giving Day—Wednesday, March 25, 2020.
