Taylor Waters

Taylor is a junior at East Carolina University, majoring in Elementary Education, with Middle Grades Additional Licensure with a concentration in Language Arts.

From small town Sanford, North Carolina, Taylor has been working with the Red Cross for about three years. After seeing her Grandmother’s home burn down, she saw the assistance the Red Cross gives which inspired her to begin her Red Cross work as a participant in a program entitled Queen of Hearts; a program where high school girls raise funds for the Red Cross disaster services during the month of February. After raising about $7,000 dollars Taylor went on to serve as an Intern at her local Red Cross, developed a male program adjacent to Queen of Hearts, became a youth program volunteer, and a first responder to the April 16th, 2011 tornadoes. Since high school, Taylor has volunteered with the Red Cross in her college town, where she has worked heavily with SAF and has developed a university American Red Cross Club. For her work with the Red Cross in 2011 Taylor was named East Carolina University’s volunteer of the year and in 2012 was honored as a Teen Nick HALO award recipient.

Taylor is also involved as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, Golden Leaf Scholar, Junior Advisory Board member, and volunteer for Communities In Schools of Lee County.
