Navin Narayan College Scholarship and Speaker Award

Navin Narayan, a past Chair of the National Youth Council, was a dedicated, compassionate and innovative volunteer and leader. A sought-after national and international speaker on human rights, and a tireless advocate for Red Cross causes, Navin changed the way youth are now connected with the American Red Cross.

Tragically, Navin passed away at the age of 23 after battling rhabdomyosarcoma. Shortly after his death, the American Red Cross National Youth Council created a scholarship fund for Red Cross youth that exemplify the principles Navin made so apparent in order to remember his legacy.

The National Youth Council distributes two types of awards each year to high school youth: college scholarships and a speaker award.

Applications will be available on the website next fall.

About the Navin Narayan College Scholarship

This scholarship will be a one-time award of $1250 paid directly to two recipients upon proof of matriculation. The applicant must:

*Be a high school senior
*Be planning to attend a four-year college or university
*Have served a minimum of two years as a Red Cross volunteer

About the Navin Narayan Speaker Award

The Youth Speaker represents all Red Cross youth and addresses the potential, achievements and hopes of young people as they meet the challenges of the future in serving their communities through the Red Cross. The Navin Narayan Youth Speaker acts as an ambassador on behalf of the National Chair of Volunteers, Youth and Young Adult Programs and Services.

In the event the speaker is unable to attend or perform his or her duty throughout the year for any reason, the alternate speaker will be called upon to perform the duty of the speaker.
